United Transportation Union Endorses Parker for
Attorney General
The Executive Board of the United Transportation Union
(UTU), which represents 1200 railroad workers in Montana, endorsed John Parker
for Attorney General at its March 28, 2008, meeting in Missoula.
UTU State Director Fran Marceau stated, ÒJohn clearly has a
record of hard work and dedication ever since he was elected as
legislator. His work as Minority
Leader in the House during the last session demonstrated that he has strong
leadership abilities and a commitment to making Montana a better place to
live.Ó
ÒIn addition to his substantial experience as a legislator
and a deputy county prosecutor which uniquely qualifies him to be the Attorney
General, the UTU is very excited that John is a union member and understands
the collective bargaining process.
In fact, we believe he will be the first union member elected to the
position of Attorney General in MontanaÓ continued Marceau.
John Parker is a member of MEA-MFT local #7723. He was instrumental in the formation of
the local to represent the deputy county attorneys in Cascade County and also
the localÕs affiliation with MEA-MFT which is that stateÕs largest union.
ÒJohn understands what it takes to sit down and negotiate a
contract. He not only has
supported organized labor in the legislature, but actually knows from first
hand experience how important unions are in providing workers the opportunity
to earn a living wage with decent benefits,Ó concluded Marceau.
ÒI am honored that the UTU has endorsed me. My entire legal and legislative careers
have been spent working to make Montana a safer place to live and raise a
family. The endorsement by the UTU
illustrates that my work is appreciated by the working men and women of this
stateÓ said Parker.
John Parker is a State Representative and a prosecuting
attorney for Cascade County. He is
currently the top ranking Democrat in the Montana House and served as the
Chairman of the Law and Justice Interim Committee. He earned a bachelorÕs degree from Georgetown University and
a Juris Doctorate from the University of Montana Law School. John and his wife Carrie live in Great
Falls.
